“Not all readers are leaders but all leaders are readers.” – Harry S. Truman
This quote changed my perspective – if I want to be a good leader, I MUST read. No matter what stage of life we are in, we will have people and things demanding time and attention. As a wife, mom of two, and business leader it’s sometimes hard to read a physical book at home. I choose to read first thing in the morning when the boys are still sleeping and listen to podcasts and audio books when driving and exercising. I began listening to audio books and podcasts 6 years ago – which have had a major impact on how I interact with my family, plan my budget, run ByFarr, and expanded my view on nutrition and sustainability. In short, they have changed my life for the better.
Here’s what’s I’m currently “reading”:
The Model Health Show http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/podcasts/- I cannot say enough about Shawn Stevenson. His humility, love for the human body and knowledge of nutrition make for an entertaining and educational podcast. My eating, exercise and morning routine has been influenced by this podcast. I’m a healthier and happier person since I’ve come in contact with his content.
Entreleadership https://www.entreleadership.com/posts?format=podcast- This is Dave Ramsey’s business podcast. Do not miss another day without listening to this podcast! The content is so rich and invaluable. Dave Ramsey is someone that has impacted our finances and ByFarr is run off of his principles.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People https://itunes.apple.com/us/audiobook/7-habits-highly-effective-people-powerful-lessons-in/id547483655 – This is on my audible app. I listen over and over again. It helps me with my self awareness and other awareness. Every sentence he speaks I feel like I need to write it down – transformative.
Proverbs – I’m reading through Proverbs now – I meditate first thing in the morning and it helps align my day.
Closer to the ground http://www.patagonia.com/product/closer-to-the-ground-paperback-book/BK752.html?dwvar_BK752_color=000&cgid=books-stories#tile-16=&start=1&sz=36- this book is on my night stand. I adore this book. I have a desire to live off of what we grow & gather because of this book. I have gained a unique view of how we want to raise our children – bringing them along for the adventure and not waiting to adventure after they leave the house.
If you like to exercise and you’re interested in what I use to facilitate my listening – here’s what I use:
